Don’t despair. You can open that WPD document and you can change the extension. WPD documents are made by Corel WordPerfect, but Microsoft Word can open these documents. Then you can change the extension so that Windows will recognize the document type. Start Microsoft Word. Click the “Start” button and select “Microsoft>Microsoft Word.” Open the WPD document. In Word, click the Office button and select “Open.” Browse to find your document (you may have to select the drop-down button “All Files” to see it). You are now ready to change the extension to Word. Click the Office button and select “Save As.” Make sure “Word Document” is selected. Choose a name and a location. To determine that the document extension has been changed, close and reopen the document in Word. When you navigate to the document to open it, you should observe that it now has a different extension.
