The brakes in your Ford Focus ZX3 work by pushing hydraulic fluid through a solid brake line. The fluid is directed through a caliper. Inside the caliper is a piston that pushes against a brake pad which then pushes against the brake rotor. This causes the rotor to slow down. This in turn slows the Focus down, as the rotor is attached to the wheel hub assembly, which is attached to the drive wheels. When your brake pad material is 1/8 inch thick, it’ll help to know how to change the brakes in your Focus. Step 1 Loosen the lug nuts by turning them 45 degrees counterclockwise. Step 2 Raise the Focus up and put it on jack stands. To do this, place the floor jack under the the Focus and jack up on the front jack point.
