How Do You Change An Universal Joint?
If you have an universal joint in something going bad it will need replacing. You can bring it into a shop or you can do it yourself. It takes a good vice or press and some mechanic wrenches or sockets. Remove the damaged or worn universal joint. Take the bolts out of the universal caps. It might take a little prying to drop this end of shaft. Drop and slide out drive shaft. Remove keepers in solid universal joint holder. Press out the old universal caps if they are still in place. Clean completely. Remove two caps on new universal joint. Make sure these are across from each other. Be careful not to mess up needle bearings. With universal joint in the middle of yoke press one cap into yoke. Use your vice to press it in. When you get to yoke use a large nut or a couple of washers to press it in so you can put keeper in place. Press other cap into yoke the same way and install keeper. When doing this make sure all needle bearings stay in place and go around the shaft of the ujoint. Put t
