The ink cartridge in a Hewlett-Packard (HP) LaserJet 1100 doesn’t last forever. The replaceable ink cartridge, seated within the printer, is available at office supply and computer stores as well as online. Changing the ink cartridge doesn’t require a special tool or a trip to a repair shop. When replacing the HP LaserJet 1100 ink cartridge, however, don’t expose the cartridge to a large amount of light–this will damage the ink inside of the cartridge. Turn off the printer, if it is on. Open the printer’s front door by pressing the door release button on the side of the printer. Remove the old ink cartridge by pulling it straight out, using the handle in the center of the cartridge. Remove the new ink cartridge from its packaging. Shake the new cartridge gently from side to side to distribute the ink inside of the cartridge. Bend the tab on the right side of the cartridge. Pull the tab and its attached tape gently from the cartridge. Insert the new ink cartridge into the tracks inside
