How Do You Change An Encaustic Wax Painting?
Encaustic painting is a historical art form created by the Egyptians a few thousand years ago. This style of painting uses colored wax to express vivid colors on your canvas. Unlike most forms of painting, you can literally wipe the slate clean, and restart your painting all over again. This is definitely not something that is easily done in oils or watercolors. Position your existing encaustic wax painting on your work area. Place it in a corner so the wax that you remove does not muddy the main area that you are working. Place the hot iron over the area of wax that you want to remove. This melts the wax allowing it to be manipulated. Scrape away the wax using the edge of your hot iron, or use the tip and edge of your iron to move the wax to one side of the painting, even off of the canvas. Use a bundle of paper towels to clean up any extra wax built up on the hot iron. This wax is hot, so be sure to use enough paper towel between your hand and the iron so that you aren’t burnt. Paint
