How Do You Change A Jeep Fuel Skid Plate?
A Jeep’s fuel tank skid plate can become pretty banged up, especially if the Jeep is driven on the trail at all. Because of the location of the fuel tank, the vehicle should not be driven without the skid plate. Support the gas tank skid plate with a jack, and remove all the 18-mm bolts on either side of the unit. Depending upon how long they have been in place as well as their condition, these bolts can be very difficult to remove; if they won’t budge, use a large breaker bar or an impact wrench on them to increase your turning power. Take the last couple of bolts out very slowly and make sure the skid plate is supported well. Soak the bolts in cleaning solution before re-installation to ensure that they will go in easier. Lower the skid plate. With all the bolts out, the skid plate will be free to come down. If you are working alone, slowly lower the skid plate from the Jeep on a large floor or transmission jack–do not attempt to lower it yourself without a jack to avoid injury. Ins
