How Do You Change A Fluorescents Ballast?

0

Upon some troubleshooting of your florescent light fixture, you may discover that the ballast is bad. There is no need to change the whole fixture out when simply replacing the ballast will bring your florescent light back to life. Even if the ballast isn’t bad, you can still update to a more energy efficient ballast. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, improved ballasts can make the light fixture 12 to 30 percent more efficient. Locate your service panel, breaker box or fuse box and turn off the power to the room where you are working. Remove the florescent light fixture’s cover by prying it off. Screws hold some covers in place, so use a screwdriver to remove them. Remove the florescent light bulbs and pry off the wire cover that hid the ballast and all the wiring. Hold the audible electrical tester up to the wiring and verify that the power is off. The tester will beep if the power isn’t off. Mark the wire locations and colors on paper so you know how to hook up the new ball
