A cylinder door lock consists of a keyed cylinder mechanism contained within the operating trim for the lock. It will typically include an inner and outer knob or lever for operating the door, with a hole to insert the key into the exterior handle. These locks are installed through a hole bored into the door. As long as you choose a lock that requires a standard 2-1/8-inch bore, cylinder locks are easy to remove and replace. Examine your existing lock. Most cylinder locks are held in place with screws that are installed near the base of the handle or knob.
