How Do You Celebrate The National Day Of Prayer?
In 1952, a law provided allowed the president of the United States to proclaim a National Day of Prayer. The date was officially set for the first Thursday of May in a bill signed by President Reagan in 1988. Since then, some people of faith have gathered on that day to pray for the nation, their communities and all Americans. Look for events through advertising, announcements and worship centers to gather at noon for prayer. Some communities meet at city parks, around flagpoles, worship centers and other public areas. Outside events occur at many places of worship and are open to everyone. Contact local town halls, churches, synagogues and other places housing bells to ring bells at noon for 5 minutes. Gather with your community in prayer around those locations. Participate in group activities.
