How Do You Celebrate The Green River Rendezvous In Wyoming?
The French word “rendezvous” is a fitting name for this annual gathering of mountain men located among the shadows of Wyoming’s Wind River Mountain Range. For several decades during the early nineteenth century, French fur traders would seek their livelihood traversing the high altitude terrain, capturing beaver, fox and other creatures for the animals’ pelts, and when the weather warmed, these mountain men would meet along the Green River to trade and sell the furs. The traders represented mountain ranges throughout the territory now known as Wyoming, Colorado, Montana and Idaho. In honor of this tradition, the town of Pinedale, Wyoming, holds the Green River Rendezvous every summer during mid-July, and though most of these men have become extinct, many honor the tradition by recreating the event, retelling mountain stories and dressing authentically. Make the visit to Green River Rendezvous part of a planned summer vacation to the Tetons and Yellowstone. Make hotel reservations. The
