How Do You Celebrate Kwanzaa In New Orleans?
New Orleans is home to several large Kwanzaa celebrations that start in the middle of December and end with the start of the New Year. Because of its mixed heritage and history, New Orleans offers a good chance to learn about history while enjoying the fun of the celebrations at the same time. Home to several historical and ethnic museums, New Orleans offers visitors a chance to explore beyond the festivals. Attend the Annual Children’s Kwanzaa Celebration at the Ashé Cultural Arts Center for a 3-hour celebration featuring storytelling, music and dance geared especially to the little ones. The day of the celebration varies from year to year, but it’s usually held between December 29 and 31. Celebrate by joining the series of events organized by the African American Museum of New Orleans (see Resources below), including special exhibits, workshops on African beadwork and other events.
