Install a hardware firewall instead. Every router has a built-in hardware firewall that will work better than a software firewall and that will not interfere with your Internet apps. So, buy a router (wireless or wired), a cheap one is enough if you don’t need to share your Internet connection with the whole neighborhood. If you already have a router, then you don’t need a software firewall, it would be useless and would only slow down your computer, trust me. However, if you want to catch the hackers red-handed (I don’t think it would be of any use), then use a software firewall, because it’ll display an alert message when something will try to connect to the Internet or vice-versa (the Internet trying to connect to something in your computer).
