How Do You Catch A Water Polo Ball?
Eggbeater up and meet the ball with your hand. Let the ball carry your arm back into a ready position. Hold your hand up out of the water to make a target for the person passing you the ball. This shows them that you are ready for the pass, and also which hand you want to catch it with. Watch the incoming pass and determine whether you need to make adjustments. If it is far off, you may need to start swimming to get to it. If it is only a little way off, you may only need to make a minor adjustment. Don’t be afraid to use your other hand if the ball is thrown to that side. Raise your catching arm up to meet the ball. Use your eggbeater kick (see “How to Do an Eggbeater Kick”) to get high out of the water and splay your fingers out to receive the pass. Relax your arm as the ball hits your hand, allowing the weight of the ball and the momentum of the pass to carry your arm back.
