How Do You Cast With A Plaster Bandage?
One of the basic tasks that every health care professional eventually learns is how to make a cast for a broken bone. Casts are rigid forms built around a broken appendage to keep the bones aligned and immobile as they heal. One of the easiest ways to build a cast is with plaster bandage. Essentially, this is a bandage presoaked with plaster to cut down on preparation and set up time when building a cast. Begin by laying the appendage out in an open area free of obstructions. Allow a doctor to inspect and set the bone. Cut a piece of the netting sock the length of the affected appendage and slide it over the broken part. Dip the plaster bandage in the bowl of water and begin wrapping the broken appendage in tight spirals. Overlap each wrap by about an inch and continue adding strips of bandage until the entire break is covered. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 three to four more times along the length of the break so that the broken appendage has a thick layer of plaster bandage all around. Allow
