Looking for a economical, multi-purpose, and secure way to carry bikes AND/OR other cargo? Can’t justify spending hundreds of dollars on a brand name carrier that will ONLY carry bikes? I searched everywhere for a bike carrier before a recent vacation. I wanted something that I could use for a bike OR other cargo depending on what kind of activity I was doing. With this simple modification you can carry bikes AND/OR cargo on a receiver hitch mounted cargo carrier. Get a Hitch-Haul or similar cargo carrier that fits into your receiver hitch. I bought a Hitch-Haul for just over $50 at Walmart. Different cargo carriers have different weight ratings. Mine can carry up to 500 pounds. Bikes are lightweight, but I also use mine for hauling firewood and other cargo. Decide how many bikes you want to carry. I made mine to carry two bikes.
