Let’s face it, without skates you can’t play roller hockey. Whether you compete in a serious league or just for fun, caring for your skates will extend their shelf life and make you a better player. Dry your roller hockey skates in the open air after use. Undo the laces and open them up as far as possible to allow the air to flow through. Rotate your wheels every 40 miles. Move them front to back and flip them so the inside edges face out. This will ensure that all sides receive and even amount of wear. Replace your roller hockey skate’s wheels once they have been rotated to all positions, or when they show signs of wear. If you feel drag while skating, it is time to replace them. Service your bearings when you have dirt build-up. If your bearings have a removable outer ring, degrease and lubricate them, taking care that you don’t lose any bearings.
