How Do You Care For Red Worms?
Vermiculture, or composting with worms, is becoming popular with those who are interested in composting but don’t have a lot of space–especially true for those who live in urban areas. Red worms are relatively easy to care for and, once your compost bin is up and running, require little maintenance to remain happy and healthy. Prepare a bin for the red worms. Choose a plastic bin with a lid; storage bins are ideal. To allow oxygen to circulate, drill holes in the sides of the bin about two inches from the top. Also drill several holes in the lid. Cut some newspaper into strips and lightly moisten the paper with water. Fill your bin with the prepared strips until it is about half full. Place the red worms on top of the layer of newspaper strips. Add another two inches of moistened newspaper strips on top of the worms and place the lid on the bin. Let your worms get used to their new environment. After about a week, you can start adding food scraps to your bin to feed the worms. Do not
