Raspberries, even when seasonally abundant, say “luxury” as few other food items do. Too delicate to ship long distances or pick mechanically, raspberries are surprisingly hardy and easy to grow in a home garden. Annual fertilizing and either one or two prunings a year are the major care responsibilities, and your reward for these labors is delicious desserts and perhaps enough for homemade raspberry jam. Choose between June-bearing and so-called “everbearing” plants (which yield a spring crop and a fall crop).
