How Do You Care For Pansies In The Winter?

0

The one thing I noticed when I moved from New York City, to the south, was that there are flowers that actually live throughout the winter. They are pansies. They are beautiful and hardy, but they still need care to look beautiful in the cold months. Because pansies last through the winter, you have to groom them then also. Remove all the old blooms and stems because they sap energy from the rest of the plant. Gently remove all the damaged, curled up leaves they make the plant look unattractive. Water your pansies with a water-soluble liquid fertilizer like Miracle-Gro All Purpose Plant Food 15-30-15. Moisten the soil first then pour in the fertilizer. Make sure your pansies get at least four hours of sunlight. Feed them every two to three weeks. Water your pansies before a hard freeze and cover with pine straw to reduce damage during the freeze.
