Mandevilla, a mild-climate evergreen vine that will reach lengths of up to 20 feet at maturity, will happily wrap its fuzzy stems and leathery, dark green leaves around a fence, trellis or any sturdy support. With proper care, mandevilla, native to Brazil, will produce stunning, trumpet-shaped blooms in shades of red and pink throughout much of the year. Plant mandevilla in full sunlight, unless you live in a hot climate. In hot climates, mandevilla will do better planted where it will be exposed to morning sunlight, but in shade during the heat of the day. Mandevilla requires well-drained soil, so avoid damp, boggy areas. Install a support such as a trellis or frame for the mandevilla vine at planting time, or plant mandevilla near a pole, wall or fence. Water mandevilla deeply about once a week.
