How Do You Care For Lemonade Lemon Citrus Trees?

0

The citrus tree variety marketed and sold as a Lemonade lemon tree—prized because the fruit is said to be as sweet to eat as lemonade is to drink—is actually a hybrid cross between a lemon tree, Citris limon, and a mandarin orange or Citrus reticulata. Engall’s Nursery in Australia, which launched the Lemonade, notes that it looks like a lemon but “can be eaten straight from the tree just like a mandarin or orange.” Establish and care for a Lemonade lemon just as you would any home citrus tree. Select a planting area in full sun with light, well-drained soil. A southern or southeastern exposure close to the house offers some protection from the cold. Plant at least 6 feet from a house, driveway or sidewalk—or plant in a large container with light but well-drained soil. Keep in mind when planting that the top of the root ball needs to be the exact height as the surrounding ground, or an inch or so higher, to protect against root diseases. Backfill the hole, lightly cover to “seal”
