Italian cypress trees are known for their tall, slender look seen commonly in memorial gardens and around monuments. Although beautiful, the Italian cypress requires a caretaker who is willing to put time and money into the trees. Cypress trees tend to turn yellow if not properly taken care of. Follow these simple yet time-consuming tasks in taking care of your trees. Monitor the moisture of the dirt around your tree by pushing a stick into the surrounding soil. Water the trees if the moisture level on your stick is less than 10 inches. Apply granular fertilizer to trees quarterly in order to maintain health. Use fungicide on trees after the beginning of any wet period. The trees should not remain wet, and drenching surrounding areas with fungicide will help eliminate root fungus. Use a miticide every three months on trees to prevent mite infestation. Trim and maintain shape as needed.
