How Do You Care For Hamster Babies?
• Make sure your baby hamster hasn’t been born with any illness or disease. If it has, then go to your local pet store and buy any necessary treatment! Or you can ask the vet to treat it. • Don’t make a really big fuss over the hamster because it will get stressed! • Don’t make or buy a big cage. Just buy one with a wheel, water bowl and a food bowl • Make sure your hamster likes the food you buy or it may become sick. Buy some treats or items to play with so your hamster will be not stressted, but happy instead.
• Do not touch the babies or the mother, or disturb the cage for at least two weeks. • Do not clean the cage for two weeks, just drop in some food everyday. Make sure you’re giving the mom hamster fresh food. • Remove the wheel from the cage until the babies are 3 weeks old. • While you leave the baby hamsters alone for two weeks, try to line up homes. It’ll save you time later in their life. • Start to handle the babies for a short period of time in front of their mother after two weeks. Shave them at this time, as it’s easier without hair on their bellies. • Handle the babies as much as you can so they get used to people. Also, make sure you’re feeding them enough food. • At four weeks they can be separated from mom. Check the babies sexes again, and then separate them into same-sex pairs. If they’re dwarf hamsters, then they can stay in these pairs for the rest of their lives, as long as no fighting occurs. However, if they’re Syrian hamsters they can stay in these pairs until about
