• Buy your leopard gecko from a certified breeder or pet store with well taken care of, healthy animals. You may also consider buying online on breeding websites that sell disease free leopard geckos with different markings and colorations. Choose one with clean, healthy looking, bright eyes. Make sure that five toes are present on each foot, and that the mouth is clean; If it is crusty or has yellow odd looking tissue, the leopard gecko is probably unhealthy. If at all possible, try to buy from a breeder rather than a pet shop. • Buy a twenty-to-ten gallon aquarium with a secure screen lid if possible. This is large enough for a young gecko and an adult. Do NOT use sandbox sand as substrate as it can cause impaction (which is fatal) when the gecko eats, instead use paper towel, reptile carpet, tile, or cabinet liners. Slate tiles are the most natural substrate you can have. Leopard geckos are from arid, but not sandy regions. DON’T GET SAND. • Make sure you have a heating pad specially
