How Do You Care For A Hibiscus Tree?
The tropical hibiscus tree, with its dark green leaves and showy trumpet-shaped flowers, is the state flower of Hawaii. The flowers come in colors ranging from yellow to pink, to deep reds and even purples. By using a little bit of care and adapting to its needs, hibiscus can successfully be grown in any climate zone. Choose a variety that is most suited for your climate zone. Give the hibiscus several days to acclimate to your yard before planting. Place it in partial shade in a protected area and gradually introduce it to areas of more sunlight each day. Choose a location that receives at least half a day of sunlight and has well-drained soil. Fertilize the area with a 14-14-14 mix, being careful to work the fertilizer well and deeply into the soil. Dig a hole twice the size of the root ball. Place the plant in the hole and pack the soil loosely around it. Water lightly and allow the plant to rest. Mulch the area, keeping the mulch at least two to three inches away from the tree. Do
