Calculating furniture yardage must take into account the type of furniture with which you are working. If you are using a fabric with a big design such as large stripes, you will need to allot extra fabric so that you can match the pattern. It is always better to have too much fabric than too little. Visit an online site with a yardage calculator chart (see Resources below). Locate the image that most closely resembles the furniture item you are using in your project. Calculate the yardage for your furniture item using the number given on the chart. Multiply the number by 1.05 to get the total yardage when using solid color fabrics to avoid color-matching problems between different lots of fabric. Multiply the number by 1.15 to get the total yardage when using a patterned fabric to ensure you have enough fabric to match the pattern.
