How Do You Calculate The National Minimum Wage?
Congress sets the national minimum wage, though many states have additional laws that govern the minimum wage within their borders. Minimum wage in the United States is set at a per-hour rate (for example, in 2010, the national minimum wage was $7.25 per hour, which means that employees are legally entitled to at least $7.25 from their employer for every hour worked). Go to U.S. Department of Labor website. Click on “A to Z,” which is the first option on the red menu bar across the top of the homepage. Scroll down to the “W” section of the “A to Z Index” page. Select “Wage and Hour Division,” which should be the first option under “W.” Find and select “Minimum Wage Laws in the States” on the Wage and Hour Division Web page. The “Minimum Wage Laws in the States” page has an interactive map that shows the national minimum wage and state minimum wages.
