The Solheim Cup pits the best female golfers from the United States against the best female golfers from Europe in a competition which is held every two years. Players compete in a range of matches, including matches between pairs of players from each team and one-on-one matches between members of each team. In order to make the Solheim Cup team, the golfers must earn points playing in tournaments in the two years before the Cup is held, to acquire Solheim Cup Points. Classify the type of event. Events fall into three brackets, events with a payroll less than €750,000, events with a payroll more than than €750,000 and majors. Award 20 points for a first-place finish, 12 points to second and 9 points to third place, with 1 point less for each position down to 2 points for a 10th place finish for European players in tournaments with payrolls less than €750,000.
