Craftsman manufactures several models of motorized garage door openers for residential buildings. While the garage door openers work as intended in most circumstances, there are occasions–a malfunctioning unit or power outage, for instance–when the opener will not operate and needs to be bypassed in favor of manual operation. Craftsman designed its garage door openers to be opened manually in the event the opener becomes inoperable. Place the door in the fully closed position, if possible. If the door is open partially or fully, there is a chance, though rare, of the door shutting by itself, which could cause damage. Attach vice grips to the garage door rail under the door to prevent it from falling down if you cannot close the door. Pull down on the red emergency-release rope until the trolley-release arm is resting in a vertical position.
