Kit & Ruthie American Girl dolls story begins during the Great Depression. To make or buy the clothing of this time period, I believe it helps to understand how people were living. The Great Depression effect everyone. No social, racial or economic class was excluded. Money was tight and jobs were scarce. Wives and even children joined the work force. Women were sewing more and not buying ready made clothing. Many of the clothes were made with feed sacks. A feed sack is just a little over a yard of fabric.
