Step 1 Visit specialty smoke shops or stores with separate cigar sections to get the best quality and selection. Step 2 Make sure that the cigars are made from 100 percent tobacco. Many packaged cigars include non-tobacco products, such as paper, saltpeter or glycerin. If you’re not sure, ask the salesperson to vouch for the quality. Step 3 Base size and strength of the cigar on the level of smoking experience. In general, the larger the diameter, the richer the flavor (best suited for more “expert” smokers).
