If you are looking for a unique gift idea for Mother’s Day, graduating students or a valued teacher or colleague, you may want to consider “buying” a star and naming it after them. By doing a little research on the Internet, you can easily purchase and name a star for a loved one. It takes a little bit of time and a charge card. Understand what it is you are purchasing. When you “buy” a star, you will not actually own the star, nor will the name you assign to that star be used by astronomers or other members of the scientific community. Access the website of ISR, the leading buy-a-star website (see link in Resources.) Select which star gift set you would like to order. Most sets include a certificate with the star’s name and information about its precise location. Name the star and check out.
