How Do You Burn More Calories When Exercising?
Burning more calories when exercising does not mean exercising longer. Learn how to take your cardio workout to the next level without adding more time to your routine. Burning more calories during cardiovascular exercise can be accomplished by including short intervals or “bursts” of intense exercise. This is called High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), which is also known as sprint training. This type of training can burn up to 9 times more calories than exercising and maintaining a steady pace over the same period of time. Compare a human doing HIIT to an aircraft taking off from the ground. The aircraft uses more fuel and energy to speed up, take off, and ascend, than it does to cruise at a steady rate of speed. Our bodies are the same. More calories are burned during short spurts of intense exercise when the heart rate is climbing, than it burns when a steady pace is maintained. (It is just physics.) HIIT can be done during any cardio workout – running, jogging, walking, using
