Instead of verbally explaining a complex operational plan and fielding endless questions, a commander can utilize a terrain model to better explain the plan and ensure that every soldier knows his role. A military terrain model can be built with easily obtainable materials and constructed nearly anywhere, but the more detail put into each model the better every soldier will understand the plan.
