How Do You Build Dummy Cabinet Drawers?
A dummy cabinet drawer is a drawer that does not precisely fit the cabinet opening. Rather than trying to make the drawer fit the opening, you simply install a dummy front (sometimes referred to as a “false front”). Building a dummy cabinet drawer can be time-consuming, but a little planning will help this project go smoothly. Drill a pilot hole through each corner of the front of the drawer box. A pilot hole is simply a hole that is slightly smaller than the shaft of your screw. This helps make installing the mounting screws a quicker and easier process. Tap a countersink into the holes with a hammer so that the mounting screw heads will sit flush with the back of the drawer front. Insert mounting screws through the pilot holes from the inside of the drawer box. Stop when the screw tips protrude 1/16 of an inch beyond the outside of the drawer front.
