As a homeowner learns over the years, you can never have enough shelf space. People use bookshelves not only for books but also for collectibles and pictures. Good and sturdy bookshelves can be expensive to buy, and more often than not, the only available shelves at the store are made of cheap pressboard, which will not hold up to heavy loads of books or normal wear and tear. You can make your own bookshelves with just a few tools that you probably already have lying around the house, and you will have bookshelves that last a lifetime. Set aside two pine boards. Measure the remaining boards and cut them in half to form eight 4-foot lengths. Drill holes in the sides of the two remaining 8-foot lengths of pine. Drill one hole 3/4-inch up from the bottom edge and another 3/4-inch down from the top edge. The holes should be 2 inches inward from either side.
