How Do You Build An LED Lightsaber?
Illuminated toy swords (based on the light sabers of George Lucas’ Star Wars universe) have been popular playthings for the young and the young-at-heart for many years. However, buying one from a store can either be expensive, in the case of high quality movie merchandise, or disappointing, in the case of badly made copies. One solution is to make your own light saber, using LEDs and other relatively inexpensive parts. Cut away a section of the tube at one end, approximately 3 inches long and half the circumference of the tube. Measure the switch on the battery pack for the LED lights, and cut or drill an appropriately sized hole in the cut-away section of metal tube. Secure the battery pack in place under the cut-away section with electrical tape. Later you may wish to secure it more permanently but remember that you’ll need to change the batteries in the future. Mix the putty according to the manufacturer’s instructions and secure the dowel inside the tube. Ensure that the section wi
