If you generate your own electricity with a wind or water turbine then you can benefit from making your own AC to DC voltage adapter. Turbines produce alternating current, but electrical storage batteries and many tools and appliances require direct current. If you make your own adapter then you can use it to power many different devices from the same AC power source. Scrub the leads of the diodes and resistors with the emery board. This will remove the thin layer of grease that handling leaves on metal. It will also remove the thin layer of rust that exposure to air leaves on metal. Both grease and rust prevent good electrical connections. Push the leads of the variable resistor into the holes of the circuit board. You may need to bend the leads downward to do this. Turn on the soldering iron and allow it to fully heat up. Once it is hot then solder the variable resistor into place on the circuit board.
