A window cornice adds a nice decorator touch to any room. While they look like they are difficult to build, they are actually fairly simple to assemble. If you have basic carpentry skills you should be able to build a window cornice in no time. Measure the curtain rod with the curtains open. Add two inches to the depth of the measurement and to the length. That way the cornice can easily fit over the curtains. Decide how wide you want your cornice to be. The choice is up to you as there is no set width for window cornices. Purchase enough lumber to make the window cornice. Also purchase the other supplies and have them ready for when you need them.
