How Do You Build A Wind Power Electric Generator?
Wind turbines are an excellent alternative source of electrical energy, especially as the price of fossil fuels continues to rise. Wind turbines are available in two varieties: horizontal and vertical. While horizontal turbines tend to be more efficient producers of energy, vertical turbines tend to be much cheaper to build, require much less maintenance and are efficient enough for most purposes. A vertical wind turbine can be built at home using common parts and tools. Cut the two foot length of pipe in half horizontally. Cut each of these halves in half again, this time vertically. The resulting four sections of pipe will be used to make the blades of the turbine. The wind will push against them, causing the generator to turn. Cut out three 13 inch circles from the aluminum sheet. Use the tin snips, but be careful to avoid bending the edges up while cutting them out. Drill 1 1/2-inch holes through the centers of two of these aluminum circles. Bolt two of the pipe quarters to the top
