How Do You Build A Tipi For The Kids?
This is a fun project for a lazy summer day in the backyard with the kids. Step 1 If you are near the woods that have 2 inch diameter spruce or poplar trees that are growing too close together you can harvest the ten- 8′ poles and haul them back to the yard. If not, you can pick up a bundle of 2 x 2’s at the local Home Depot. Step 2 If you want them to look like poles you can widdle the 2 x 2’s – just round off the edges. If the kids are old enough to hold a (very) dull blade let them help. This is all part of the project. Lay out 3 of the poles to make a triangle with the tops overlapping by about a foot, and tie these 3 together with twine to make a tripod. Stand this tripod up so that they are equally spaced – they should stand about 8′ apart. Step 3 Lay the other poles onto the top crossed poles of this tripod – equally spaced between the other 3 to make a cone shaped structure.
