A levee is a temporary barrier that blocks water from your building or whatever it is you are trying to protect. Here is how to make a quick, temporary levee. Plan ahead, if possible. If you have all of the items you need to build your temporary levee (and sandbags), you will not have to waste precious time scrambling for supplies. Lay out large sheets of plastic or tarp. Use as many as you need to block the flow of water. Place sand, dirt, gravel or pre-made sandbags on the half that is closest to the property you are trying to protect. Stack the gravel, dirt, etc. at least 2 feet high. If you need it to be higher, stack it higher. Grab the plastic from the far side and fold it over the top.
