One of the classic science fiction programs from the past half-century, “Star Trek” is one of the defining sci-fi universes to have lasted over the years. The characters in the original show use a plethora of futuristic devices, with one of the most common being the communicator. A cell phone at its most basic level, the communicator is a device which has transformed through each generation of “Star Trek” shows, but the original communicator replicas allow fans to make their own customized costumes, complete with accessories. Take the fine-grit sandpaper and completely rough the surface of the cell-phone skin. Pay careful attention to the inside and outside corners, as well as all edges, as spray paint does not stick to smooth, finished plastic. Rough up the skins until all areas of the surface have been sanded and are ready for paint. Drill small holes through the front piece of the cell-phone skin. Space the holes evenly to create the grill look that the communicators on “Star Trek”
