You can build a slate waterfall with minimum building skills, natural slate stones and a lot of sweat equity. Stacking the slate to make the waterfall is simple, but excavating the opening for the pond reservoir can be a challenge. However, the end result is well worth the effort. Excavate a space to fit a pre-formed plastic pond liner. You can find pre-formed pond liners to use as a reservoir at local landscape supply stores. Pond liners come in a variety of shapes and sizes. Make sure that the pond liner is level and that there are no roots or rocks on the sides or at the bottom of the opening. Place the liner in the hole.
