How Do You Build A Simple Wood Shelf?
Wood shelves can be made in a variety of styles and sizes to fit all tastes and budgets. There are exceptions, but most shelves consist of four pieces–a shelf piece, a back piece and two brackets. A very simple shelf can be constructed using these four pieces cut from a single board. Cut the shelf piece with a saw to the length you want. Cut the back piece about 6 in. shorter than the shelf so the shelf piece will overhang the brackets a few inches–a more pleasing appearance. Cut two brackets about 8 in. long. To add character to the shelf. Use a jigsaw to cut a curve in the brackets so they taper from about 4 in. at the top to about 1 in. at the bottom.
