How Do You Build A Shower Bench?
When building or remodeling a shower, one of the most popular conveniences to include would be a bench. Whether it is for sitting or placing a foot upon for multiple uses ranging from washing to shaving the lower extremities, a shower bench can be a major convenience for a moderate effort and expense. This article assumes that the reader has a basic knowledge of carpentry, tile installation and other related skills necessary to complete a shower build. Once the basic shower enclosure has been designed and built, determine the size, shape, height and location for the bench. At the same time, determine what the height of the mortar bed will be at the location of the bench. The height of the mortar bed should be added onto the desired finished height of the bench (for instance, if the mortar bed is going to be 2 1/2″ at the outer perimeter of the shower where the bench is located and a 20″ tall bench is desired, the bench should be roughed out at 22 1/2″). Frame out the bench as desired.
