How Do You Build A Practice Pitching Mound?
Practice is the key to becoming a great baseball pitcher. The more you repeat the proper pitching motion, the easier it will be to stay consistent during a game. Unfortunately, the pitching mounds at local schools and parks usually are busy with games during the spring and summer, limiting the places where you can practice from a regulation-size pitching mound. This season, build your own backyard pitching mound and you will have no problem getting enough practice. Decide how big you want the practice pitching mound. A regulation-size adult pitching mound is 18 feet in diameter. Little League mounds are 10 or 12 feet, depending on the age group. Drive a stake into the ground at the point that will be the center of the pitching mound. Tie one end of a string to the stake. Cut the string so that it is half as long as the diameter of the pitching mound. Tie a piece of chalk to the loose end of the string. Pull the string tight and walk around the stake until you have drawn a chalk outline
