How Do You Build A Portable Pitching Mound?
Baseball is often referred to as the national pastime, but it can be difficult to play year round outside if you don’t live in a warm-weather climate. With a little elbow grease, you can create a portable pitcher’s mound to use anywhere you want, giving you the chance to enjoy the game any day of the week, no matter the season. Cut 4 feet off of the 2-by-10-by-12-foot piece of lumber and set the new piece aside to be used as a brace. Mark a spot 24 inches down on one of the 2-by-10-by-8-foot pieces of lumber and make a mark at each ensuing foot—3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 feet. The slope of the mound will be 1 inch per foot, so beginning at the 3-foot mark, make a mark 1 inch down. Mark 2 inches down at 4 feet, 3 inches down at 5 feet and so on. Trace the descending line with chalk and cut. Repeat the step for all four boards and lay the braces on a flat surface, standing upright. Attach the brace cut from the first piece of wood. Also attach the 2-by-4-by-8-foot piece of lumber as a brace o
