How Do You Build A Play Igloo?
This is a fun and easy activity for you to share with children even as young as preschoolers. If you have a book with pictures of igloos, polar bears, penguins and other frozen tundra residents, they’ll love it if you craft a story for them about the pictures. Then help them make their own play igloos with Play-Doh or modeling clay. They may even want to extend the activity by making their own igloo village and populate it with penguins and polar bears, which is great to do on a rainy day. Spread out some newspapers on a flat working surface. Help your child to roll a 2-to-3-inch ball of Play-Doh or clay. Flatten the ball on the bottom. Explain to the youngster that this is the main living area of the igloo. Show the child how to roll a piece of the Play-Doh into a log about 2 inches long and ½ inch thick, then help to flatten it to about ¼ inch thick.
