How Do You Build A Model Of A Volcano For A Science Fair Project?
Building a volcano model demonstrates how molten rock erupts from inside of the Earth. Use this science fair project to also show how a base, such as baking soda, and an acid, such as vinegar react as they neutralize each other, creating carbon dioxide gas. As you display your project, explain the structure of volcanoes and how you can tell if a volcano is active or dormant. Mix the flour and salt together thoroughly. Add 1 to 2 cups of water to the flour and salt mixture a little at a time. Work the flour, salt and water mixture through with your hands until it looks and feels like clay. The mixture should have enough water to hold together and be dry also. You may not need to use all of the water. This flour and salt mixture represents one batch of clay. Spread newspapers out over an area indoors or outside where you can work on your volcano for two days. Building a volcano model can become messy. Cut a cardboard box into a size that fits inside of the cookie sheet or tray. This card
